The fashion sense of photography

Fashion photographers are a dime a dozen, but then there are only a handful whose work truly shines through. Just search for Dabboo Ratnani fashion photos on Google Images and you will get the whole picture – pun intended. There are tons of photographs of celebrities in their bare essentials or even less and then there are those who have some really ridiculous props like Akshay Kumar in a formal attire on a kids three tyre cycle. The photos evoke a reverence for the mind and the skill behind the camera that clicked it, as the viewer focuses on the person and not their surroundings.

At the end of the day talent – that inherent knack to do a certain thing, does go a long way, but then with perseverance and patience, as they say a person can move mountains. So for someone who wants to be able wield their camera to capture a photo worth a million bucks, here’s some pointers:

The photographer and the model are on the same team when working to achieve that ultimate look and coveted photograph. So it important the central concept and the goal they are trying to achieve are both discussed and properly worked through, so when the session begins, they are able to give their best. Every shot needs to talked through properly – background, look, light, make-up – every detail is important.

More often than not, it isn’t the product being sold. It is the lifestyle that it reflects. Therefore it is important, that the overall look of the photo should drive the viewers attention to the lifestyle being portrayed. Basically the picture needs to have personality, and that comes from the person. In this case – the model. So give precise and concise directions to the model, so they can put their best look for the shot.

Confidence. It shows in the eyes. The photographer needs to instil that in the model and that is why many photographers can be heard calling out praises to the models throughout the photo session. They also keep giving pointers to hold a pose or change a pose. The photographer too needs to believe in his work. If not the photo can go wrong in more ways than one. Having confidence in their own vision, helps the photographer to work around the concept and take calculated risks as well.

Click and move. Another salient feature is that they keep on clicking. They do not stop. And by the end of the session they have a million photos to go through and sort out the ones that work the way they are supposed to. They also don’t stop moving. The intention is to capture what is before them from every angle possible.

Katrina Kaif way back in January posed and was clicked by visually impaired photographer Bhavesh Patel and the resulting work is astonishing. Talent, perseverance and true dedication at the end of the day is what truly makes up a picture worth its weight in gold.

Scouring the right talent (agent / agency)

Finding the right person to be on your side, is one part of the battle. An important part. The right agent/ agency will help you make more contacts and that is just the tip of the iceberg. Given that there are those out there who take new comers and strugglers for a ride, it helps to evaluate all those in the business properly before figuring out who you want to go with. Who you choose is also important because they represent you and if you are not represented properly – it is your image that takes a hit. So what is that you need to look for when choosing the right agent.

Finding The Right Talent

BLOG2

In an industry filled with experienced and fresh artists, finding the right talent is not an easy task as many might think. For a newbie employer, finding the right contacts will be a major challenge. How can such an employer with a handful of jobs of artistes get into the bandwagon of running after artists, their managers and their acquaintances even? Do we have an organization that keeps a seamless track of artists of all experience levels? Even if they do, how accessible are they to upcoming producers/employers? Fact remains that there isn’t a very easy and efficient way to find the talents like Actors, Models, Photographers, Dancers or Singers. One way is through an efficient casting agency and the other is through reference and word of mouth. Not everyone can afford to pay a casting agency and not each one of them can assure quality service. What are the other alternatives for finding the right talent?

Understanding New faces in India’s Performing Arts industry

Erasing the struggler tag. Once and for all.

Every industry anticipates fresh, bright talent who will not only give the established ones a run for their monies but also will their rawness hit us like the aroma of morning coffee. Well, now the question is whether they have it easy to make their presence felt. Be cinema, modelling, music or any related field involving performing arts, freshers face a tough time projecting what they have in store. Very often do we hear terms such as ‘one film wonders’ and about super-talented artists who couldn’t make it big in their respective industries. No, blaming the destiny is passé but the performing arts industry in India, in stark words, is quite inconsiderate to the ones without significant contacts. They end up looking for the right channels to push their talent across but in vain. Most of us must have heard about talent management firms and the likes but do we know the tedious procedure, industry politics and the money that goes into making a good career though such organizations? Many of us sacrifice our passion for performing arts and resort to other professions precisely due to the lack of such a mentor.
