The fashion sense of photography

Fashion photographers are a dime a dozen, but then there are only a handful whose work truly shines through. Just search for Dabboo Ratnani fashion photos on Google Images and you will get the whole picture – pun intended. There are tons of photographs of celebrities in their bare essentials or even less and then there are those who have some really ridiculous props like Akshay Kumar in a formal attire on a kids three tyre cycle. The photos evoke a reverence for the mind and the skill behind the camera that clicked it, as the viewer focuses on the person and not their surroundings.

At the end of the day talent – that inherent knack to do a certain thing, does go a long way, but then with perseverance and patience, as they say a person can move mountains. So for someone who wants to be able wield their camera to capture a photo worth a million bucks, here’s some pointers:

The photographer and the model are on the same team when working to achieve that ultimate look and coveted photograph. So it important the central concept and the goal they are trying to achieve are both discussed and properly worked through, so when the session begins, they are able to give their best. Every shot needs to talked through properly – background, look, light, make-up – every detail is important.

More often than not, it isn’t the product being sold. It is the lifestyle that it reflects. Therefore it is important, that the overall look of the photo should drive the viewers attention to the lifestyle being portrayed. Basically the picture needs to have personality, and that comes from the person. In this case – the model. So give precise and concise directions to the model, so they can put their best look for the shot.

Confidence. It shows in the eyes. The photographer needs to instil that in the model and that is why many photographers can be heard calling out praises to the models throughout the photo session. They also keep giving pointers to hold a pose or change a pose. The photographer too needs to believe in his work. If not the photo can go wrong in more ways than one. Having confidence in their own vision, helps the photographer to work around the concept and take calculated risks as well.

Click and move. Another salient feature is that they keep on clicking. They do not stop. And by the end of the session they have a million photos to go through and sort out the ones that work the way they are supposed to. They also don’t stop moving. The intention is to capture what is before them from every angle possible.

Katrina Kaif way back in January posed and was clicked by visually impaired photographer Bhavesh Patel and the resulting work is astonishing. Talent, perseverance and true dedication at the end of the day is what truly makes up a picture worth its weight in gold.

Scouring the right talent (agent / agency)

Finding the right person to be on your side, is one part of the battle. An important part. The right agent/ agency will help you make more contacts and that is just the tip of the iceberg. Given that there are those out there who take new comers and strugglers for a ride, it helps to evaluate all those in the business properly before figuring out who you want to go with. Who you choose is also important because they represent you and if you are not represented properly – it is your image that takes a hit. So what is that you need to look for when choosing the right agent.

Dealing with the Chaos of Making a Short Film

A short film is the stepping stone to the world of cinema for every budding filmmaker. Shoestring budgets, zero inventory and shortage of talent – the main concerns that await an aspiring short film maker. We researched a bit upon the checklist that one should keep before setting out to make a short film.

First and foremost, one ought to have a bound script in place – which is executable, significant and, most importantly, simple enough to connect in a short time frame. Avoid thinking in the feature film format. Do not go for stories that traverse through different periods or eras to avoid consistency glitches. A solid script can also attract investors, which are, again, hard to get.

A complete list of inventory would be the second aspect to be aware of. More than what you require, one should be aware of what you do not – which is a simple exercise to save money. Last but not the least, talent holds key in developing your short film to what you visualize it to be. Refrain from recruiting novices just for the sake of saving money. When it comes to actors and technicians your key should be to audition till you get it right. Sometimes you could come across with similar talents on platforms like Page3Artist. Collaborate with them and look at making a team that helps you learn and evolve during the process of film-making. Be actors, cinematographers, dancers, singers, sound designers, voice over artists – Page3Artist is one platform where you will find all of them.

If you have your script ready on table, now is the time to surf Pagae3artist. Here you go!

Formal Training – First Step to an Aspiring Artist’s Success

In this day and age, the word artist is taken so passively. Every other person who can sing rather tunefully pitches himself as a singer. The ones who are adept at shaking a leg at parties and events consider themselves as dancers. Not only will this trend let mediocrity creep in but the techniques of the respective arts go down the drain as well! Yes, we are talking about the importance of formal training.

Bold, Bolder, Boldest

Indian cinema seems to have grown a new spine in the past couple of years, given the kind of bold cinema making its way to the audiences. Vidya Balan’s Dirty Picture is yet another example that forces the question of how can they emote such behaviour on camera for the world and its brother to see. Actress Preeti Gupta is presently in the news for her nude pictures that have gone viral. When asked about her work she said, “Shooting such scenes needs dedication and discipline. It’s very challenging. The concept of the film made sense to me and that’s why we decided to show the truth of the situation. Ultimately, we were trying to recreate two hours of reality. Our intention is not to titillate but to show you the truth. It needs courage.”
